Luciano Candisani, award-winning Brazilian photographer and documentary filmmaker, embarks once again for the largest floodplain in the world, an environment he has explored for more than two decades with the mission of revealing the biodiversity hidden beneath the surface of rivers. His images brought an unprecedented visual identity to the submerged ecosystems of the Pantanal and showed an inseparable link between the strength of life and the aquatic environment. But this time he faces a new challenge on his journey: engaging and raising awareness in the world about the threats that loom over the balance of waters that he knows like few others. The large-scale destruction of the ecosystem, caused by several factors, has severely affected the water flow, with the loss of wetlands, a tragedy for the fauna and people who derive their livelihood from the rivers and lakes in the region. In this scenario of more pronounced droughts, it is fire that takes the place of water with unprecedented fires. The photographer travels through a much drier and more threatened Pantanal, but still finds resistance and hope for the return of water balance.
